Meet The Neighbors
Schafewald Sheep Farm is surrounded by Mother Nature in all forms. In addition to the multitude of Ponderosa Pines, we have frequent visitors from
nature's neighbors: elk, deer, cats (domestic and wild), a wide variety of birds, wild turkeys, and of course dogs.
So.... meet our neighbors:
This winter we had as much as 12 bull elk living amongst us and feasting on our alfalfa hay stack. Although magnificent in stature, these rascals damaged our pickup truck, destroyed our brand new hay tarp, and threatened us as we tried to get to our cars to go to work in the morning. They ate a lot of our hay in 2 months. As a result of this, we are putting up a fortified electric fence around the haystack for next fall.
What do you want?
When the elk aren't around, we see quite a lot of deer, like this mom and her doe.
Mom and baby
Glynis and Barney love to play in the snow. Kalija is more serious, but loves to eat the snow. He should have been named Chinook.
Are we having fun yet? Huh? Huh? Are we?
Cocoa Puff is our indoor/outdoor barn cat. He's an all black Maine Coon wity icy green eyes. When he isn't hunting for rodents (and birds) he loves to hang out in the barn while chores are getting done.
